Role
Antares is hiring a Licensing Engineer to develop and carry out licensing and permitting strategies for its R1 microreactor product line and future commercial microreactor deployments. The engineer turns regulatory requirements into design and program requirements across Department of the Army, Department of Energy and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) pathways, with NRC work focused mainly on the anticipated Part 57 pathway.
Responsibilities: Identify applicable regulatory and permitting requirements and confirm that design and licensing products satisfy them. Prepare or coordinate licensing plans, technical briefs, white papers, topical reports, application content and responses to regulator questions. Track regulator and stakeholder comments and commitments to documented closure. Develop regulatory positions, weigh alternative compliance approaches, plan regulator engagements and help build repeatable licensing processes, working with engineering, safety analysis, operations, quality, security and program teams.
Requirements: A bachelor's degree in engineering or a closely related technical discipline, and experience in systems design or a highly regulated technical environment. Candidates need the ability to convert regulatory requirements into clear, verifiable design or program requirements, strong technical writing and communication skills, and the ability to evaluate alternatives, explain trade-offs and drive actions to closure in an ambiguous, fast-paced setting.
Preferred experience: NRC reactor licensing, DOE authorization-basis development or nuclear safety analysis; advanced reactor, nuclear facility, national laboratory or university research reactor work; preparing submittals and answering requests for additional information; familiarity with NRC Parts 50, 52 and 70; and working knowledge of systems engineering, design control, nuclear quality assurance or configuration management.
Working arrangements: Under U.S. export regulations (ITAR), applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, lawful permanent residents, refugees or asylees, or be eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.
