Jobs / Antares Nuclear

Senior/Staff Nuclear Safety Analysis Engineer

Los Angeles, California, US · $160,000–$235,000 a year

Role

Antares is hiring a Senior/Staff Nuclear Safety Analysis Engineer to own the safety analysis supporting final design of its Mark 1 reactor. The engineer leads intact-event (non-breach) safety analysis, TRISO-based source terms and the dose results that support Mark 1 licensing.

Responsibilities: Own the scope, approach, schedule and quality of safety analysis deliverables. Perform deterministic analysis of intact events, using Phenomena Identification and Ranking Table (PIRT) methods to bound figures of merit defensibly. Develop source terms covering TRISO coating-layer failure and fission product release, and quantify how neutronics uncertainties propagate into dose. Support license application content and regulator information requests, work with testing and materials teams on data gaps, lead code verification and validation, author calculation packages and safety reports, and mentor engineers.

Requirements: A BS in nuclear, mechanical or a related field and four or more years of reactor safety analysis experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates need hands-on use of a system-level thermal-hydraulic code such as RELAP5-3D, TRACE, SAM, GOTHIC, SAS4A/SASSYS-1 or MELCOR; working knowledge of TRISO or other advanced fuel performance; source term and dose experience; neutronics fundamentals; PIRT or similar scoping methods; and quality-affecting technical writing.

Preferred experience: An MS or PhD; probabilistic risk assessment under risk-informed methods such as NEI 18-04; DOE or NRC advanced reactor frameworks, including Parts 50, 52, 53 and 57; code qualification and uncertainty quantification under ASME NQA-1; ORIGEN, MACCS or RASCAL; and fuel performance codes such as PARFUME, BISON or AGREE.

Working arrangements: Under U.S. export regulations (ITAR), applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, lawful permanent residents, refugees or asylees, or be eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.
