Role
Antares is hiring a Senior, Thermo-Mechanical Design Engineer to act as Responsible Engineer for the Reactor Cavity Cooling System (RCCS) of its microreactor. The role owns the thermal, mechanical and piping design that keeps the reactor cavity and surrounding structures within design temperature limits while minimizing wasted thermal power.
Responsibilities: Perform thermal-fluid, mechanical and structural analyses to size and lay out piping, ducts, stacks, supports, filtration equipment and cavity structures. Define system architecture, operating limits, design margins and control strategies, and produce calculations and design reports for licensing and design reviews. Develop test articles, test stands and validation procedures for component and system tests. Coordinate RCCS integration with reactor systems, licensing, manufacturing, procurement and operations.
Requirements: A bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace or nuclear engineering or a related discipline with an emphasis on thermal-fluid sciences and heat transfer, plus five or more years of professional experience designing, analysing or developing thermal-fluid, HVAC, heat transfer or cooling systems. Candidates need experience with thermal, fluid flow and structural calculations and with multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred experience: A master's degree or higher; natural-circulation or buoyancy-driven heat transfer analysis with CFD or multiphysics tools; HVAC or industrial ventilation design; ANSYS, COMSOL or equivalent FEA and CFD software; thermal stress, creep and corrosion considerations; ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code or B31 piping design; and prior technical lead or Responsible Engineer experience.
Working arrangements: The company's Los Angeles-area facility is in Torrance, California. The role requires long hours and weekends when critical milestones demand them. Under U.S. export regulations (ITAR), applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, lawful permanent residents, refugees or asylees, or be eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.
