Jobs / Commonwealth Fusion Systems

CSA Project Engineer

Devens, Massachusetts, US; Richmond, Virginia, US · $90,000–$145,000 a year

Role

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is hiring a CSA Project Engineer to handle design and construction engineering in the civil, structural and architectural (CSA) discipline. The engineer turns design deliverables into construction-ready work, guides field compliance with engineering documents and develops turnover packages for commissioning.

Responsibilities: Resolve constructability and design issues in CSA scopes for process systems, review and approve external CSA engineering documents, and work with outside engineering firms. Lead cross-functional 3D model reviews, then plan, sequence, assemble and issue Construction Work Packages while maintaining construction configuration management. Coordinate field-procured materials, cost and progress reporting, schedules with field supervision and subcontractors, and the request-for-information and field-change process between construction and engineering.

Turnover work includes managing the system turnover schedule with the construction managing contractor, building turnover packages by system and subsystem, facilitating walkdowns, and reviewing field inspection records and punch lists for quality and completeness.

Requirements: A BS in civil engineering, structural engineering or a related engineering discipline, and at least five years supporting design, construction and execution of civil or structural projects, or process systems with structural requirements. Candidates need a grasp of the engineering, design and construction lifecycle for complex industrial facilities; experience with structural steel, concrete, foundations, embeds, anchors, equipment supports and building systems; knowledge of IBC, AISC, ACI and ASCE; the ability to read issued-for-construction documents such as P&IDs and isometrics; and the ability to juggle multiple priorities.

Working arrangements: The role is hybrid across the Devens, Massachusetts and Richmond, Virginia locations. It involves stooping, climbing, extended standing or sitting, occasional travel and occasional night, weekend or on-call work, with hazards including strong magnets, high voltage and cryogenics. Any offer depends on compliance with U.S. export-control laws.
