Commonwealth Fusion Systems is hiring a Senior Test Planning Engineer - Assembly to plan, draft and obtain approval for SPARC assembly test products, including test campaigns, plans, instructions and procedures. The aim is to accelerate project milestones through specialized design-verification testing that can involve low voltage, high voltage and high stored energy.
Responsibilities: Write clear, version-controlled test procedures and instructions that define scope and mitigate risk for engineers and technicians. Review preliminary and final designs for ways to reduce risk through testing, and weigh schedule gains against safety and quality. Build practices such as pre-job briefs, place keeping and critical-parameter monitoring into test products, lead troubleshooting and cause evaluations after anomalies, and fold lessons learned back into procedures. Ensure field work follows CFS safety policies and published standards such as NFPA, ASME, ASTM, OSHA and NIOSH.
Requirements: A BS in engineering or a related field and seven years of equivalent engineering experience. Candidates need previous testing experience involving hazards, previous high-voltage electrical testing experience, and high proficiency with MS Office, Bluebeam or Acrobat, and 3D modelling programs.
Preferred experience: OSHA 10 and NFPA 70E.
Working arrangements: The engineer must be onsite five days a week when assembly operations with relevant tools are underway, with possible alternating first- or second-shift assignments and occasional off-normal hours for critical tests. The work involves occasional lifting up to 50 lbs, stooping and climbing, in a facility with hazards including strong magnets, high voltage, high current and cryogenics. Any offer depends on compliance with U.S. export-control laws.
