Nuclear Engineer (New Grad)

Los Angeles, California, US · $90,000–$105,000 a year

Role

General Matter is hiring a Nuclear Engineer (New Grad) with an interest in regulatory compliance and licensing. Working alongside experienced engineers, the graduate supports licensing actions, regulatory submissions and engagement with regulators for the company's nuclear fuel cycle facility.

Responsibilities: Help prepare and review licensing applications, regulatory reports, amendment requests and license renewal applications that meet Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requirements. Assist with regulator communications and the tracking of inquiries, carry out technical evaluations against codes, standards and 10 CFR under the guidance of senior engineers, and monitor regulatory changes. The role also supports safety analyses, environmental reports and risk assessments, writes documentation for licensing submissions, and joins inspections, audits and regulatory meetings with senior staff.

Requirements: A bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering or a related field, as a recent or upcoming graduate, with coursework in nuclear engineering fundamentals, reactor physics or fuel cycle systems. Candidates need general familiarity with NRC regulations, including 10 CFR and standards such as ANSI and ASME, clear technical writing and communication across disciplines, strong organization and attention to detail.

Preferred experience: An internship in nuclear licensing, regulatory affairs or a related technical role, especially involving nuclear or highly regulated facilities. Evidence of exceptional ability, familiarity with nuclear facility operations and safety analyses, and exposure to regulators such as the NRC are also valued.

Working arrangements: The application describes the job as in-person at the Los Angeles office and asks whether candidates will relocate and commute daily. It states that the job requires access to export-controlled information, generally limited to US persons, and a US Q security clearance, which requires US citizenship. Extended hours and weekends may be required.
