Role
General Matter is hiring a Nuclear Licensing Engineer to support regulatory compliance and licensing for its nuclear fuel cycle facility. The engineer focuses on licensing actions, regulatory submissions and engagement with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and other authorities, to meet federal, state and local requirements.
Responsibilities: Prepare and review licensing applications, regulatory reports, amendment requests and license renewal applications that meet NRC requirements. Resolve regulator inquiries on time, help develop strategies to obtain and maintain licences, and carry out technical evaluations against codes, standards and 10 CFR. The engineer also tracks regulatory changes, supports safety analyses, environmental reports and risk assessments, and represents the company in inspections, audits and regulatory meetings.
Requirements: A strong grasp of engineering fundamentals and the ability to run trade studies and make clear recommendations from first principles, even with partial information. Candidates need a strong understanding of NRC regulations, including 10 CFR and related industry standards such as ANSI and ASME, excellent written and verbal communication, the ability to prepare clear regulatory documentation, attention to detail and cross-functional teamwork.
Preferred experience: Evidence of exceptional ability through prior projects or completed work, a fast-paced or highly technical role with tight timelines or budgets, familiarity with nuclear facility operations and safety analyses, and direct experience working with regulators such as the NRC.
Working arrangements: The application describes the job as in-person at the Los Angeles office and asks whether candidates will relocate and commute daily. It states that the job requires access to export-controlled information, generally limited to US persons, and a US Q security clearance, which requires US citizenship. Extended hours and weekends may be required.
