UF6 Operator

Role

General Matter is hiring a UF6 Operator to run and monitor its uranium enrichment systems, which handle uranium hexafluoride (UF6). The operator works hands-on in an R&D setting where equipment is still being built and commissioned, alongside engineers and chemists.

Responsibilities: Operate enrichment equipment and support systems under written procedures, including valve adjustments and equipment starts and stops. Watch operating parameters, alarms and instruments, respond to abnormal conditions and malfunctions, and keep logs and shift-turnover records. The operator also performs routine inspections, takes part in lockout/tagout, supports maintenance and commissioning, helps develop procedures and training materials, and keeps qualifications current.

Requirements: A high school diploma or GED and at least three years as an industrial plant operator, process operator or equivalent in a high-hazard or regulated setting, such as a chemical plant, refinery, power plant, semiconductor fab or military technical operation. Candidates must follow procedures precisely, wear protective equipment in industrial environments, and be able to obtain and keep the required security clearance and access authorization. US citizenship is required.

Preferred experience: Navy nuclear propulsion or other military technical training, work under regulators such as the NRC, DOE, FDA or EPA, and familiarity with lockout/tagout, confined space entry or hazardous materials. An active or prior DOE Q/L or DOD Secret/Top Secret clearance, an associate degree in process technology or industrial operations, and startup, commissioning or R&D experience also count. UF6, enrichment or other nuclear experience is a plus but not required.

Working arrangements: The job is on-site in Paducah, Kentucky or Los Angeles, California. Operators work rotating day, evening and night shifts, including weekends and holidays, and may need to work extended hours.
