Role
Helion is hiring a Build Engineer to drive the execution of first-of-a-kind fusion generator assemblies. The engineer owns manufacturing, assembly and deployment of subsystems for integrated development testbeds and fusion generators, working with design engineering and production so that manufacturability is represented at every design stage.
Responsibilities: Define and execute builds for generator subsystems, which may include large structures, moving mechanical assemblies, power transmission, vacuum systems, electromagnets, high-voltage capacitor systems, low-voltage harnessing or radiation shielding. Write work instructions for technicians covering nominal builds and nonconformance resolution, and design and manufacture assembly and installation tooling. Develop prototypes and manufacturing demonstrators with production, integration and engineering teams. Drive configuration management, delivered hardware quality and pace of execution, and improve low-volume build processes (under 1,000 piece parts) across a part's lifecycle from purchase to final assembly.
Requirements: A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field and at least two years of professional experience in manufacturing, assembly or integration of multidisciplinary hardware. Hands-on experience across disciplines such as mechanical, electrical and fluids; CAD modelling and drawings in tools such as NX or SolidWorks; demonstrated end-to-end ownership of a build; and effective technical communication across functions and organizational levels.
Working arrangements: The role is onsite at Helion's Everett, Washington office. The application states that the position requires compliance with U.S. export-control laws and asks about U.S.-person status, U.S. work eligibility and sponsorship needs.
