Role
Helion is hiring a Manager, Fusion Test & Operations to build and lead the research and development operating team bringing its pulsed fusion devices online to generate electrical power. The manager reports to the Senior R&D Manager and leads engineers and scientists who control high-energy systems, run plasma experiments and design diagnostics.
Responsibilities: Grow and mentor a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists and operators, and own schedule optimization to accelerate milestones. Work with Engineering, Science and Production to derive system requirements. Contribute to testing and operating Field-Reversed Configuration (FRC) fusion devices, leading the design and execution of plasma and high-energy experiments. Support the team's work on large vacuum systems more than one meter in diameter, and apply plasma physics to forming FRCs and to diagnostics that measure magnetic fields, fusion products and plasma characteristics.
Requirements: A B.S. with eight or more years of engineering experience, or an M.S. with four or more years of relevant experience, in aerospace, nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, physics or a related field. At least one year in a technical leadership or management role, a record of mentoring engineers and advancing their careers, and experience leading multidisciplinary teams with full project ownership. Proven experience designing, building and operating complex experiments with a focus on diagnostics, hands-on work across several engineering disciplines, first-principles problem solving and the ability to learn new technologies quickly.
