Role
Kairos Power is hiring a Distinguished Engineer, Reactor Systems to set technical direction for reactor design, integration, analysis, testing, qualification and deployment. The engineer advises executive leadership and resolves cross-disciplinary technical decisions affecting safety, performance and commercialization.
Responsibilities: Guide system architecture, requirements, design bases, interfaces and verification plans. Lead integration reviews, resolve issues spanning reactor vessels, internals, thermal hydraulics, manufacturing and licensing, and develop engineering standards. Review analyses and design documentation, assess technical risks, and mentor senior technical leaders.
Requirements: A bachelor’s or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or a related technical discipline, plus 20+ years of progressively increasing technical leadership experience in reactor design, reactor systems, advanced technology, complex mechanical or high-temperature systems, or similarly regulated engineering environments. Experience leading major technical scope on complex programs, participating in or leading formal technical reviews, and communicating with executive or cross-functional stakeholders is expected. Applicants need expertise in advanced reactors, high-temperature and molten-salt systems, relevant codes, and engineering analysis.
Preferred experience: Nuclear, energy, chemical, oil-and-gas or power-generation programs are preferred contexts. Publications, patents, standards work or equivalent technical achievements are preferred. Formal design/configuration control under NQA-1, ISO 9001 or equivalent and relevant ASME/ANSI/ASTM code experience are desired.
Working arrangements: U.S. remote work is available, with 20% travel required; onsite staff may travel 10%. Site, supplier, manufacturing and construction visits require protective equipment. Occasional extended hours support project milestones. Work requires authorization to access 10 CFR Part 810-controlled information; foreign nationals from countries outside DOE’s general authorization list need a company-held DOE export-control license.
