Role
Kairos Power seeks an experienced Principal or Distinguished Engineer to lead technical deployment of KP-FHR heat transport system equipment, reporting to the Senior Manager, Engineering Integration. The role centers on the Nuclear Heat Recovery Steam Generator (NHRSG), integrating commercial molten salt steam generators, salt pumps, valves, and auxiliary systems into the Power Generation Systems structures, systems, and components for efficient, safe, and reliable plant energy conversion.
Responsibilities include designing and deploying NHRSG equipment; leading design trades, performance analyses, and optimization for commercial and regulatory needs; integrating the NHRSG with overall plant design and operations; managing external partners, suppliers, regulators, and vendors; overseeing technical specifications, design documents, and system drawings; performing feasibility studies and risk assessments on molten salt technologies; helping build and mentor a small engineering team; presenting findings to senior management; supporting commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting during startup; and leading or supporting formal design, interface, hazard, and readiness reviews plus supplier oversight of deliverables, deviations, test plans, and qualification evidence.
Qualifications require an M.S. in Mechanical, Nuclear, or a related field with 10 or more years of experience in power conversion system design and development, particularly in nuclear or thermal power, including managing complex projects, leading technical teams, licensing new technology, and deploying physical hardware in heat transfer systems; molten salt or high-temperature fluid experience is a plus.
