Kairos Power is hiring a Process Engineer, TRISO Fuels Facility to develop chemical and physical process systems for nuclear fuel manufacturing. Work progresses from facility design and procurement to construction, commissioning, startup and operations.
Responsibilities: Develop process flow diagrams, heat/material balances, piping and instrumentation diagrams, equipment specifications and utility calculations. Coordinate facility integration and vendors, lead process-hazard evaluations, and support acceptance testing, installation, operating procedures and operational readiness.
Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline and 10+ years of process-engineering experience in chemical processing, industrial manufacturing, nuclear, pharmaceutical, semiconductor or similarly regulated industries. Applicants need experience producing process deliverables, integrating facility disciplines, commissioning and starting industrial systems, working with hazardous chemicals and process-safety controls, and supporting vendor procurement, technical reviews and acceptance testing. Engineering/modeling tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, process simulation software or equivalent are required.
Preferred experience: Nuclear industry, fuel-cycle, chemical-processing or advanced-manufacturing experience is preferred.
Working arrangements: Initially onsite in Albuquerque, with relocation to Gillette, Wyoming expected when construction begins; relocation assistance follows company policy. Travel between both sites is required during design and construction, alongside occasional vendor/engineering-partner visits. Travel after relocation is expected below 10%.
Working conditions: Duties include climbing access equipment, moving objects up to 10 pounds, and construction/manufacturing areas with noise and chemical fumes, using protective equipment. Schedule flexibility, seldom weekend work and extended commissioning/startup hours may be needed. Work requires authorization to access 10 CFR Part 810-controlled information; foreign nationals from countries outside DOE’s general authorization list need a company-held DOE export-control license.
