Kairos Power is hiring a Quality Control Technician (Machining) to inspect precision-machined parts, fabricated components and assemblies for nuclear technology development. This senior technical contributor independently plans inspections, maintains traceable records and mentors inspectors.
Responsibilities: Interpret drawings and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), establish datum frames and measurement strategies, and program dimensional-measurement systems. Document nonconformances, support corrective actions and audits, and advise engineering on inspectability while protecting acceptance standards.
Requirements: High school diploma or GED, plus a minimum of 7 years in dimensional inspection, precision-manufacturing quality control or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience. Applicants need independent complex-inspection experience, advanced ASME Y14.5 GD&T, precision-instrument proficiency, programming/operation of at least one CMM, portable arm or laser tracker, and dimensional-inspection software experience. Machining/fixturing knowledge, complex-geometry inspection and controlled quality-system experience are expected. Capability to obtain forklift/boom-lift certifications and complete inspection qualifications and nuclear-quality training is required.
Preferred experience: Technical training, apprenticeship or a relevant associate’s degree; Romer arms/laser trackers; high-consequence hardware inspection; multiaxis in-machine probing; ERP, first-article records and audit support; and ASQ or GD&T certifications are preferred.
Working conditions: Onsite inspections involve objects up to 50 pounds, heights, confined areas, temperature extremes, machinery, noise, fumes and protective equipment. Travel may be approximately 10%. Occasional overtime, weekends, nonstandard hours and second-shift assignments starting at 4:30 p.m. are listed. Work requires authorization to access 10 CFR Part 810-controlled information; foreign nationals from countries outside DOE’s general authorization list need a company-held DOE export-control license.
