Kairos Power is hiring a Senior IC&E Embedded Systems Engineer to develop safety-critical instrumentation, control and electrical hardware for an advanced nuclear plant. The role covers circuits, printed-circuit boards, system integration and qualification testing, including Reactor Protection System hardware.
Responsibilities: Design analog/digital circuits, prepare schematics and PCB layouts, define interfaces and evaluate design tradeoffs. Bring up and debug prototypes, execute functional and qualification tests, and maintain traceability between requirements, designs and test results. Collaborate with manufacturing, suppliers and systems engineers under formal design and configuration controls.
Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field, and 6 years of relevant engineering experience in electronic hardware, instrumentation/control systems or related systems design. Experience in regulated or high-reliability environments, analog and digital circuit design, schematic-capture/PCB tools such as Altium, Cadence or KiCad, and laboratory instrumentation/debugging is required.
Preferred experience: PCB-layout constraints and EMI/EMC awareness, structured failure analysis, hardware interfaces/integration, FPGA or programmable logic, embedded systems/firmware bring-up, and hardware projects progressing from concept through testing are preferred, not required.
Working conditions: Hands-on duties include moving objects up to 30 pounds, ladders, confined spaces, machinery, repetitive fixture assembly, hazardous materials, chemical fumes and color identification, with protective equipment. Some travel may be required at 10%, with occasional extended hours for critical timelines. Work requires authorization to access 10 CFR Part 810-controlled information; foreign nationals from countries outside DOE’s general authorization list need a company-held DOE export-control license.
