Kairos Power is hiring a Test Engineer to develop experimental hardware, laboratory infrastructure and first-of-a-kind test systems for advanced reactor technology. The role combines engineering analysis, hands-on experimentation and rapid prototyping to resolve technical uncertainties and improve laboratory capabilities.
Responsibilities: Design, fabricate and commission experimental systems, integrate mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and control components, and plan and document experiments. Troubleshoot unexpected behavior, implement instrumentation and automation, and produce design packages, operating procedures and technical reports. Support laboratory operation and maintenance and guide less-experienced engineers and technicians.
Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Engineering Physics or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience developing complex multidisciplinary engineering systems. Applicants need 5+ years designing, building, integrating, testing, commissioning or troubleshooting experimental hardware or electromechanical systems. Experience developing laboratory equipment, prototypes, manufacturing tooling, robotics, automation or research infrastructure, integrating multiple engineering systems, and using CAD/mechanical design is required.
Preferred experience: Instrumentation, data acquisition, controls, LabVIEW, PLCs, Python, embedded systems or similar tools are desirable. Nuclear, aerospace, robotics, scientific-instrumentation, semiconductor or other advanced-technology experience is preferred.
Working conditions: Onsite work includes moving objects up to 20 pounds, hand tools and protective equipment in prototyping, testing and industrial environments. Travel may reach 10%, with occasional weekends, schedule flexibility and extended hours. Work requires authorization to access 10 CFR Part 810-controlled information; foreign nationals from countries outside DOE’s general authorization list need a company-held DOE export-control license.
