Role
Oklo is hiring a Core Design Engineer to develop manufacturable reactor cores that balance neutronics, thermal hydraulics, materials, mechanical performance and economics. Level will depend on experience.
Responsibilities: Translate stakeholder needs into system requirements, model core performance over time with multiphysics simulations and first-principles methods, and verify design requirements. Work with fabrication engineers to mature designs, provide feedback to methods developers and document results in technical reports.
Requirements: A bachelor's, master's or PhD in nuclear engineering or a related field. Candidates need multidisciplinary core-design experience, object-oriented programming experience such as Python or C++, and experience with neutronic, thermal-hydraulic and material analyses. Clear technical writing and verbal communication are important.
Preferred experience: Fast-reactor design, fuel-cycle optimization, ternary fuels and fuel cycles, CI/CD environments and Python fluency. Relevant tools include SERPENT, MCNP or SCALE; DIF3D or PERSENT; reactor-system codes such as SAS4A/SASSYS-1, SAM, RELAP, TRACE or GOTHIC; and fuel-performance tools such as BISON or LIFE-METAL.
Working arrangements: Remote staff must visit Santa Clara headquarters twice per quarter. Onboarding requires two weeks in Santa Clara. Export controls may limit eligibility to U.S. persons; offers depend on necessary authorizations. Employment may require drug screening and subsequent testing. A résumé and cover letter are required.
