Oklo is hiring a Hot Cell Design Engineer to develop remotely operable systems for its used-nuclear-fuel recycling facility. The role integrates shielding, confinement and remote handling into an industrial-scale hot-cell environment.
Responsibilities: Develop hot-cell equipment layouts, transfer pathways and maintenance access. Coordinate shielding requirements, ventilation and structural interfaces, integrate manipulators, cameras and cranes, and contribute to failure-mode and hazard analyses. Support procurement specifications, prototyping, installation and commissioning.
Requirements: A bachelor's or higher in mechanical engineering, nuclear engineering or a related discipline, with at least five years in radiological facility design, glovebox/hot-cell engineering or radiological material handling. Working knowledge of remote handling, robotics or manipulators and understanding of shielding, criticality safety and radiological protection standards are required. Candidates must communicate clearly, apply systems-engineering judgment and integrate feedback across engineering, licensing and safety.
Preferred experience: Fuel-cycle, isotope or defense hot cells; CAD tools such as NX, SolidWorks or Inventor; NRC/DOE requirements and nuclear standards; radiological-system mockups or commissioning; and vendor, architecture/engineering-firm or project coordination.
Working arrangements: Remote staff must visit Santa Clara headquarters twice per quarter. Onboarding requires two weeks in Santa Clara. Offers depend on satisfying applicable export controls, including necessary authorizations. Employment may require drug screening and subsequent testing. A résumé and cover letter are required.
