Oklo is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer - Core Mechanical Design to take reactor-core assemblies and components from concept through final design. The role works with fuel fabrication to improve manufacturability and inspectability.
Responsibilities: Develop controlled CAD models, drawings, bills of materials and design-basis documents. Coordinate thermal, structural, fatigue and safety analyses, conduct design reviews and tolerance studies, and prepare components for fabrication and assembly.
Requirements: A bachelor's or higher in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline, with an experience level of 3–10 years in industry mechanical/structural design. Candidates need 3D CAD proficiency such as Siemens NX, CATIA or SolidWorks, PDM/PLM version-control experience such as Teamcenter, SolidWorks PDM or Windchill, and design-for-manufacture/assembly and tolerance-stack knowledge. Ability to apply GD&T under ASME Y14.5-2018 or a similar standard, metals/material selection, fabrication knowledge and supplier collaboration are required.
Preferred experience: Safety-critical hardware, full-lifecycle project leadership, precision design and inspection, high-temperature thermal mechanics and nuclear material effects. ANSYS, Python, SolidWorks and ASME GD&T Professional certification at Senior or Technologist level are advantages.
Working arrangements: Remote staff must visit Santa Clara headquarters twice per quarter. Onboarding requires two weeks in Santa Clara. Offers depend on satisfying applicable export controls, including necessary authorizations. Employment may require drug screening and subsequent testing. A résumé and cover letter are required.
