Mechanical Design Engineer - Fuel Recycling

Santa Clara, California, US · $80,000–$155,000

Role

Oklo is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer - Fuel Recycling to develop remotely operated electrochemical molten-salt equipment. The systems must operate above 500°C in high-radiation environments while remaining maintainable and suitable for automation.

Responsibilities: Design and validate corrosion-resistant process hardware, maintain controlled CAD models and fabrication documentation, and incorporate remote handling and maintenance. Coordinate vendors and multidisciplinary design reviews, then support prototyping, testing and commissioning at recycling sites.

Requirements: A bachelor's or higher in mechanical engineering or a related field such as materials or nuclear engineering, plus 5–10 years demonstrating mechanical-system delivery from concept through design, analysis, fabrication and deployment. High-temperature or heavy-industrial custom equipment experience and expert CAD proficiency such as Siemens NX, CATIA or SolidWorks are required. Candidates need systems-engineering judgment and knowledge of high-temperature alloys, corrosion-resistant metals, manufacturing and joining methods.

Preferred experience: Electroplating, electrowinning or pyroprocessing; molten-salt and radiation-tolerant equipment; automation/robotics; heavy industrial or pilot systems; ANSYS or similar FEA/CFD; GD&T; facility integration; and commercial or government nuclear projects.

Working arrangements: Travel to headquarters or another designated location twice per quarter is required. Offers depend on satisfying applicable export controls, including necessary authorizations. Employment may require drug screening and subsequent testing. A résumé and cover letter are required.
