Role
Oklo is hiring a Mechanical Engineer - Fuel Recycling to develop radioactive-waste treatment equipment from concept through deployment. The emphasis is defining requirements and evaluating vendor solutions rather than performing detailed equipment design personally.
Responsibilities: Specify equipment, operating concepts and acceptance criteria for waste processing, packaging, storage and handling. Review layouts, P&IDs and vendor designs for reliability, contamination control and maintainability. Support procurement, design reviews, hazard analysis, commissioning and facility integration.
Requirements: A bachelor's in mechanical engineering or a related engineering field and at least five years of relevant engineering experience. Candidates need industrial-process equipment development or integration, vendor/specification/procurement experience, 3D CAD and 2D fabrication drawings, and controlled documentation. Familiarity with P&IDs, layouts, handling interfaces and vendor packages, practical fabrication/inspection/failure-mode knowledge and cross-discipline coordination are required.
Preferred experience: Nuclear or regulated industrial facilities, radioactive-waste processing and hot-cell systems, packaging and cask interfaces, waste characterization and acceptance criteria, ALARA and radiological planning, waste classification and packaging regulations, automated/remote handling, SolidWorks, hazard analyses and commissioning.
Working arrangements: Remote staff must visit Santa Clara headquarters twice per quarter. Onboarding requires two weeks in Santa Clara. Export controls may limit eligibility to U.S. persons; offers depend on necessary authorizations. Employment may require drug screening and subsequent testing. A résumé and cover letter are required.
