Oklo is hiring a Senior Mechanical Designer - Fuel Recycling to turn engineering concepts into manufacturable process hardware. Equipment includes molten-salt vessels, furnaces, hot cells, gloveboxes and remote-handling systems operating above 500°C or in corrosive/radiological environments.
Responsibilities: Build detailed SolidWorks models and fabrication, weldment, machining and assembly drawings. Apply design-for-manufacture/assembly principles, maintain controlled files and bills of materials, and work with machinists and vendors. Support prototype assembly, testing and iterative hardware improvements.
Requirements: An associate degree, technical certification or bachelor's in mechanical design, mechanical engineering technology, drafting or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience. At least five years developing detailed mechanical designs and fabrication drawings is required. Candidates need advanced SolidWorks assemblies/weldments/sheet-metal skills, manufacturing-process knowledge, GD&T and tolerancing, manufacturing notes, and demonstrated design-for-manufacture/assembly experience.
Preferred experience: Nuclear/radiological equipment, hot cells, gloveboxes, high-temperature furnaces, molten salts, vacuum/corrosive systems, pressure-containing weldments, ASME Y14.5, PDM/PLM, rapid prototyping and direct fabrication-shop collaboration.
Working arrangements: Remote staff must visit Santa Clara headquarters twice per quarter. Onboarding requires two weeks in Santa Clara. Export controls may limit eligibility to U.S. persons; offers depend on necessary authorizations. Employment may require drug screening and subsequent testing. A résumé and cover letter are required.
