Oklo is searching for a Senior Neutronics Engineer to join its engineering team, responsible for developing and executing neutronics analyses supporting design, optimization, operation, and safety evaluation of an isotope production reactor, covering core design, fuel cycle, target performance, shielding, and sensitivity and uncertainty quantification across the reactor lifecycle and isotope production facility. The role works closely with thermal hydraulics, mechanical design, materials, isotope processing, operations, safety, and licensing teams to translate system and production objectives into traceable, defensible computational models and results, within a small, growing, highly iterative isotope division.
Specific responsibilities include reactor core design and optimization with Monte Carlo and deterministic neutron transport methods using MCNP, Serpent, and SCALE; core lifecycle and fuel management analyses including depletion, burnup, reactivity evolution, power distributions, and cycle optimization; core physics parameters such as excess reactivity, control element worth, shutdown margin, reactivity coefficients, and kinetics; irradiation target design for isotope yield, specific activity, radionuclidic purity, heat limits, and schedule; depletion, activation, decay, and transmutation analyses; neutron and photon source terms; variance-reduction shielding analyses; TSUNAMI and SAMPLER sensitivity and uncertainty methods with design margins; method qualification and reference models; verification and validation against benchmarks and operating data; startup testing and surveillance support; multiphysics coupling; design-space exploration; reproducible analysis workflows; and support for design reviews, safety evaluations, licensing, and regulatory responses.
Minimum qualifications point to a bachelor's, master's, or PhD in a technical field such as nuclear engineering with reactor design and analysis experience (master's or PhD preferable), fluency with Python, proficiency with high-performance computing, and proficiency with MCNP, SERPENT, or SCALE modules highly recommended; hands-on irradiation experiment experience is a plus.
