Role
Oklo is hiring a Thermal-Hydraulics and Safety Analysis Engineer - Isotopes to develop the thermal-hydraulic safety case for domestic isotope-production facilities. The role supports reactor design and licensing but does not own source-term, radiological-consequence or severe-accident progression analysis; collaboration with those analysts may be required.
Responsibilities: Build systems-level transient models using RELAP5 or comparable codes, covering normal operation, anticipated occurrences, design-basis events and selected beyond-design-basis conditions. Define event assumptions and acceptance criteria, justify model applicability, and assess uncertainty and validation gaps. Produce auditable calculation packages and licensing responses, evaluate design changes, review partner analyses, and automate model execution, post-processing and regression testing.
Requirements: A bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree in nuclear, mechanical, chemical or aerospace engineering, or a closely related technical field. Five or more years in reactor thermal-hydraulics, nuclear safety analysis, reactor transient analysis or a closely related field are required; a relevant advanced degree may substitute for part of the professional experience. Demonstrated development and execution of systems-level transient models using RELAP5 is required.
Requirements: Strong heat-transfer, fluid-mechanics, thermodynamics and reactor thermal-hydraulics fundamentals. Experience defining transients/accidents, including initial/boundary conditions, equipment response, operator/control actions and acceptance criteria, and evaluating model/correlation applicability rather than treating software as a black box. Clear technical reporting and independent cross-disciplinary work are required. Bring experience with verification and validation, uncertainty quantification, sensitivity analysis, scaling, bias evaluation or code-applicability assessments, plus familiarity with experiment design, separate-effects and integral-effects testing, benchmarks and test-data validation.
Preferred experience: NRC/DOE licensing applications, audits, methodology reports and regulatory responses; fluency in Python or another automation/data-analysis language; and version control, automated testing, reproducible computing and continuous integration. Nuclear quality-assurance programs or safety-related analysis software/records, mentoring and technical review are also bonuses.
Working arrangements: Remote employees travel to Santa Clara headquarters twice per quarter based on team/business needs; the application also allows another designated company location. The first two weeks of onboarding are in person in Santa Clara.
Application conditions: A résumé and cover letter are required. Export-control eligibility may require U.S.-person status or government authorization. Employment may depend on drug screening, with subsequent testing possible under company policy and applicable law.
