Role
Pacific Fusion is hiring a Senior Project Engineer, Steel Structures to lead procurement, contract management, installation and commissioning of structural steel for its fusion program. The scope covers tanks, equipment platforms and steel components that hold, lift, move and position critical equipment, with responsibility for turnkey delivery and installation.
Responsibilities: Own heavy fabrication and steel structures scopes across suppliers, internal stakeholders and build sites. Turn design intent into executable work through requests for quotation, technical bid review, purchase-order readiness and fabrication kickoff. Maintain execution plans from procurement through installation and closeout, and manage vendors from pre-award through delivery. Prepare fabrication work packages, inspection documentation, nonconformance tracking and turnover packages.
Requirements: A bachelor's degree in mechanical, civil or construction engineering or a related technical field, plus 5+ years in project engineering, fabrication, manufacturing, industrial construction or related technical execution roles. Candidates must have managed complex vendor-built scopes such as welded assemblies, structural steel or machined components, and need working knowledge of welding, fabrication, inspection and manufacturing documentation. Familiarity with AWS D1.1, AWS D1.6 or ASME B31.3 is required, as are reading drawings, specifications and inspection plans, schedule management and clear communication across technical and non-technical teams.
Preferred experience: First-of-a-kind hardware work in fusion, aerospace, energy, shipbuilding or heavy industry; owning supplier scopes through field installation, weld inspection and nonconformance resolution; and large stainless steel structures, vacuum hardware or pressure systems.
Working arrangements: Candidates must be willing to travel up to 50% between San Leandro, California, vendors and the Albuquerque build sites. The role may require access to ITAR- or EAR-controlled information, which the employer restricts to U.S. persons, including lawful permanent residents and asylees or refugees with granted, not pending, status.
