Design Lead, Reactor Components

Role

TerraPower is hiring a Design Lead, Reactor Components for Natrium, reporting to the Reactor Enclosure System Manager. The lead coordinates a distributed engineering and supplier team to take integral reactor components from requirements through design, fabrication and assembly.

The role oversees thermal, seismic, structural, creep and shielding analyses and integrates the results into reactor design. Responsibilities include applying ASME Section III Division 5, developing drawings and equipment interfaces, incorporating manufacturability and assembly requirements, directing suppliers and qualification tests, supporting safety-analysis reports and leading milestone design reviews.

Requirements include a B.S. in mechanical engineering or a related discipline from an accredited university and at least ten years of direct experience with demonstrated mechanical-systems skills. Candidates must have led design of complex, high-temperature structures and equipment involving multidisciplinary integration. Experience working to design quality standards such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001 is required, alongside technical communication, independent team leadership and the ability to resolve competing design constraints. ANSI/ANS 3.1 education and experience criteria apply.

Working knowledge of ASME Section III and prior nuclear mechanical-component, reactor-equipment or similar design experience are highly desired. Travel is 0–10%. Physical duties include prolonged sitting, stairs and lifting up to 25 pounds, with accommodations assessed individually. Export-control review applies, and hiring may depend on timely government authorization.
