TerraPower is hiring an EPICS Control Systems Engineer to support Natrium experiments with laboratory test engineers and the Information Technology discipline. The engineer develops LabVIEW and PLC/PLA control systems, EPICS integration and human-machine interfaces for first-of-a-kind testing.
Responsibilities include building Phoebus interface templates, programming LabVIEW CompactRIO devices and Structured Text controllers, and integrating sensors and control hardware. The engineer helps establish a unified control strategy across facilities, supports experimental data acquisition and assists test engineers during shakedown and operation of specialized equipment under hazardous conditions.
Requirements include a B.S. in controls, electrical, mechanical or chemical engineering, physics or equivalent, plus at least three years of relevant experience. Candidates need LabVIEW control programming, collaborative HMI development and EPICS integration experience. Experience with complex data-acquisition systems, varied sensors and numerous input/output signals, and operational-technology networks with active experiments is required. Analytical problem-solving, independent recommendations and clear technical communication are expected.
An advanced degree and experience with Siemens, Beckhoff, NI or similar PLC/PLA platforms and their EPICS integration are advantages. The application also asks about laboratory experience. Travel is 0–10%. Physical duties include prolonged sitting, stairs and lifting up to 25 pounds, with accommodations assessed individually. Export-control review applies, and hiring may depend on timely government authorization.
