Role
TerraPower is hiring a Fuel Manufacturing Lead Engineer to provide technical leadership across the Natrium fuel-manufacturing chain. The role covers enrichment, HALEU feedstock metallization, fuel and non-fuel core-component fabrication, and transport.
The engineer leads process scale-up from laboratory and pilot work to qualified production, directs supplier deliverables and owns manufacturing requirements and configuration baselines. Work includes integrating fuel properties with reactor-design and safety teams, maintaining nuclear quality compliance, mentoring engineers, supporting NRC and DOE interactions, and advising schedules, costs and technical risks.
Requirements include a B.S. in nuclear engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering or a closely related field and at least 15 years of experience. Relevant master's and doctoral degrees may count for up to three and five years respectively. Demonstrated nuclear fuel design or manufacturing expertise is required, as are nuclear-QA experience including audits, nonconformance disposition and corrective actions, and vendor direction for nuclear-grade fabrication, supplier qualification and source inspection. Matrix leadership and technical-team mentoring are expected. ANSI/ANS 3.1 education and experience criteria apply.
Nuclear materials, metallurgy or fuel-cycle engineering backgrounds and metallic fast-reactor or other advanced-reactor fuel expertise are strongly preferred. Fuel-fabrication facility licensing under 10 CFR 70 or equivalent is desired.
Travel is 0–10%. Physical duties include prolonged sitting, stairs and lifting up to 25 pounds, with accommodations assessed individually. Export-control review applies, and hiring may depend on timely government authorization.
