TerraPower is hiring a Lead Engineer, System Design for Natrium primary systems responsible for heat transport, reactivity control and containment of reactor fuel and coolant. The engineer coordinates design, analysis and testing disciplines to deliver these systems for the demonstration project.
Work includes defining requirements, preparing mechanical-system designs and interface documents, establishing equipment design bases and reviewing supplier deliverables. The engineer develops change packages, addresses operability and reliability, and supports construction and operating licenses and milestone design reviews.
Requirements include an accredited B.S. in mechanical engineering or a related discipline and at least ten years of relevant experience. A relevant advanced degree may partially substitute for experience. Complex-system design, multidisciplinary integration, configuration management, design-control tools and experience working to standards such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001 are required. ANSI/ANS 3.1 education and experience criteria apply.
Nuclear-system or high-temperature pressure-vessel design, ASME Section III knowledge, PE licensure and system-architecture documentation are preferred. The application additionally asks about U.S. nuclear-industry experience under NRC or DOE jurisdiction, safety-related system design or construction, and ten years designing, constructing or operating industrial systems containing hazardous materials.
Travel is 0–10%. Physical duties include prolonged sitting, stairs and lifting up to 25 pounds, with accommodations assessed individually. Export-control review applies, and hiring may depend on timely government authorization.
