Role
TerraPower is hiring a Loop Engineer - Test and Fill Facility to configure and operate high-temperature sodium loops for Natrium development and validation. The engineer works with system engineers, safety analysts and facility operations and maintenance staff to deliver reliable test data.
Responsibilities include steady-state and transient analyses, operating envelopes, test matrices, P&IDs and startup, shutdown and abnormal-response procedures. The engineer troubleshoots pumps, heaters, valves and controls, monitors sodium chemistry and cover gas, and supports hazard analyses and failure-mode assessments. Work also covers instrumentation requirements, synchronized data acquisition, configuration control and technical reporting.
A bachelor's degree in mechanical, chemical, nuclear engineering or a related discipline is required. The employer describes typical experience as three to eight years in thermal-hydraulic systems, test facilities, nuclear or industrial process systems, or high-temperature fluid loops. Candidates need fluid mechanics, heat transfer and thermodynamics knowledge, modeling or calculation tools such as MATLAB or Modelica, documented engineering calculations, P&ID familiarity and equipment-sizing skills. ANSI/ANS 3.1 education and experience criteria apply.
A master's degree is preferred, and sodium or other liquid-metal experience is highly preferred. High-temperature instrumentation, controls, data acquisition and calibration knowledge, and steam or specialty-fluid experience are desirable.
Travel is 0–10%. Physical duties include prolonged sitting, stairs and lifting up to 25 pounds, with accommodations assessed individually. Export-control review applies, and hiring may depend on timely government authorization.
