Role
TerraPower is hiring a Manager, Fuel Development & Testing to lead engineers developing and qualifying Natrium fuel. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Fuel Development & Qualification, the manager oversees fuel-performance tools, analysis and testing and supports project scheduling and reporting.
Responsibilities include approving technical deliverables, developing metal-fuel performance tools and planning tests to validate models and qualify fuel. The manager supports licensing, coordinates materials, fuel-supply and core-design teams, and arranges testing with national laboratories and vendors. Team recruitment and development, safe work practices, quality assurance and delivery against cost and schedule constraints are also part of the role.
Requirements include a B.S. or higher in a relevant engineering discipline from an accredited university and at least eight years of relevant experience. At least two years of supervisory, mentoring or equivalent people leadership and advanced experience with nuclear quality programs, design control and configuration management are required. Candidates need nuclear-industry knowledge, fuel-performance modeling and/or irradiation-testing knowledge, and demonstrated planning, budgeting, testing or modeling execution and management skills.
ASME NQA-1 and 10 CFR 50 Appendix B experience are preferred. Metallic-fuel and/or sodium fast-reactor knowledge is strongly desired, as is the ability to direct small teams with minimal oversight.
Travel is 0–10%. Physical duties include prolonged sitting, stairs and lifting up to 25 pounds, with accommodations assessed individually. Export-control review applies, and hiring may depend on timely government authorization.
