TerraPower is hiring a Manager, Fuel Fabrication for the Natrium Fuel Design and Supply team. The manager oversees the fabrication facility, HALEU feedstock metallization and fuel production, owning fuel components from metal feedstock to completed assemblies.
Work includes laboratory and pilot-scale casting, metallographic evaluation, sample preparation and material acceptance testing. The manager integrates fuel properties with reactor-design and safety teams, coordinates quality requirements, leads staff and succession planning, and monitors production risks. The role also serves as a contact for NRC and DOE interactions involving operations, supplier qualification, licensing and inspections.
Requirements include a B.S. in nuclear engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering or a closely related field and at least ten years of experience. Relevant master's and doctoral degrees may count for up to two and four years respectively. Nuclear materials, metallurgy or fuel-cycle engineering backgrounds are strongly preferred. ANSI/ANS 3.1 education and experience criteria apply.
The role calls for metallic nuclear-fuel expertise, vendor direction for nuclear-grade fabrication, supplier qualification, source inspection and nonconformance disposition. Familiarity with engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, ASTM/ASME material specifications and nuclear procurement documentation is expected. The application asks about fuel-development/fabrication and direct-report management experience in nuclear or similar environments.
Travel is 0–10%. Physical duties include prolonged sitting, stairs and lifting up to 25 pounds, with accommodations assessed individually. Export-control review applies, and hiring may depend on timely government authorization.
