Role
The Nuclear Company is hiring a Licensing Engineer in Columbia, South Carolina, joining the Regulatory team reporting to the Director of Licensing to support licensing strategies and documents for new nuclear deployment.
Responsibilities include assisting preparation, review and revision of license applications, amendments, technical specifications, Safety Analysis Reports, Environmental Reports and other regulatory submittals; ensuring accuracy, completeness and technical adequacy; understanding licensing bases and regulatory commitments; interpreting federal, state and local nuclear regulations and assessing impacts of new or revised regulations; supporting internal stakeholders on requirements and strategy; preparing responses to regulatory inquiries and requests for additional information; participating in meetings and teleconferences with regulators including the NRC; assisting with inspections and audits; developing and implementing compliance programs and procedures; conducting internal audits and assessments; tracking regulatory commitments and action items; reviewing design changes and procedures for licensing-basis consistency; and developing training materials to promote regulatory awareness.
Experience requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Nuclear, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or related) or a related scientific discipline; 5+ years in engineering or a related technical field within the nuclear energy industry; demonstrated experience with nuclear regulations, licensing processes and guidance documents including NRC regulations and NUREGs; familiarity with reactor systems, safety analysis or environmental regulations; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent written and verbal communication; detail orientation; ability to interpret regulations and technical standards; ability to work independently and as part of a team; and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
