Role

Valar Atomics is hiring a Chemical Vapor Deposition Engineer for the TRISO fuel manufacturing pilot line run by its Fuels & Materials team in Orangeville, Utah. The engineer takes ownership of the fluidized-bed chemical vapor deposition (CVD) coater and works with cross-functional teams to install, troubleshoot and optimize pilot-scale uranium processing equipment.

Responsibilities: The role aligns coater performance with manufacturability and cost targets and refines operating, maintenance and troubleshooting procedures as the process moves into production. It builds on completed HAZOP studies and safety analyses, models equipment operation to meet tight specifications, and improves yield and throughput. The engineer leads root-cause and corrective-action investigations into coating defects, fluidization behavior, nozzle accretions, bed stagnation and deposition variability, drives QC laboratory analysis and data reporting, and works with vendors on cost, timelines and quality control.

Requirements: Direct experience with chemical vapor deposition and a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. Candidates need strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes and mechanical systems, including fluidized beds and CVD coating, the ability to lead root-cause investigations, production-environment experience, experience overseeing and mentoring a team, and strong communication and documentation skills. Willingness to relocate to Emery County, Utah is required.

Preferred experience: High-performance or safety-critical production work, quality and reliability engineering, hands-on production, HMI use and support for PLC logic updates, statistical process control to improve batch-to-batch repeatability and yield, and CAD/PLM software.

Working arrangements: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
