Role
Valar Atomics is hiring a Licensing Engineer III in its Regulatory & Licensing team, part of the Regulations & Safety organization, to develop license applications and safety basis documents for the company's technologies and facilities. This senior engineer owns assigned chapters or topic areas end to end, from planning inputs and authoring through subject-matter-expert review and closure of regulator comments, and sets the standard for document development.
Responsibilities: The engineer writes assigned application and safety basis content following the structure of the governing regulations, standards and guidance, and builds compliance matrices and conformance descriptions, including graded-approach positions. Content drawn from source documents is annotated with its identifier and revision and routed to the cognizant subject-matter expert (SME) for verification. The role identifies the SME inputs needed, prepares responses to regulator requests and comments, maintains chapter reference sets and approved baselines, and mentors and reviews other licensing engineers.
Requirements: A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related science field and ten or more years of experience in nuclear licensing, regulatory affairs or related work, including authorship of regulatory documents or safety analysis. Strong technical writing and document planning skills are required.
Preferred experience: Direct interaction with a regulator, such as requests for additional information, audits and meetings; licensing experience for advanced reactors, research reactors or fuel facilities; and experience mentoring or leading document development teams.
Working arrangements: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
