Responsibilities: The role writes test plans for first-of-a-kind reactor systems, subsystems and control algorithms, setting experimental conditions, acceptance criteria and evaluation methods. It runs heavily instrumented reactor and component test campaigns with operations teams and analyzes thermal, structural, neutronic and control data. The engineer evaluates fuel performance and stability margins during commissioning, authors reports, procedures and test standards, recommends engineering change proposals, serves as technical authority for experimental methods and test safety reviews, and supports plant operations and maintenance as needed.

Candidates need demonstrated experience in experimental test design, instrumentation or complex system characterization, a strong analytical background, the ability to draw engineering conclusions from test data, and experience developing technical reports, test plans or engineering analyses. Willingness to relocate to Orangeville, Utah is required.

Preferred experience: A master's degree or PhD in engineering or physics; work with nuclear systems, reactor physics or high-temperature process systems; experience in test reactor, DOE laboratory or advanced R&D settings; familiarity with TRISO fuel behavior, thermal hydraulics or control theory; and hands-on commissioning or complex experiments.

Working arrangements: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
