Role
Valar Atomics is hiring a Plant Operator to help commission and operate its facilities in Orangeville, Utah, as part of the Utah Site Operations team. Operators may be assigned to the high-temperature reactor plant or the pilot TRISO fuel fabrication facility, depending on operational needs and experience. The role begins with an intensive onboarding and training period working directly with the design, controls and engineering teams.
Responsibilities: Operators run and monitor reactor systems or fuel fabrication equipment, carrying out startup, shutdown and routine operations under safety and procedural standards. They work hands-on with engineers during commissioning, testing and performance validation, analyze operating data to identify trends and maintain reliability, and support process control, material handling and quality assurance for fuel fabrication. Everyone on the team helps with commissioning, troubleshooting and plant work regardless of title, and operators help refine procedures.
Requirements: An associate degree or equivalent training in nuclear technology or in mechanical, chemical or electrical systems, and at least two years of experience in industrial, power plant or process operations. Candidates need a strong understanding of safety culture, technical systems and control instrumentation, and must be willing to relocate to the Orangeville, Utah area.
Preferred experience: A background in commercial, research or naval nuclear operations or in fuel fabrication; familiarity with TRISO fuel systems, helium coolant loops or high-temperature process systems; and experience with commissioning, plant startups, chemical processing or control room operations.
Working arrangements: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
