Role
Xcimer Energy is hiring a Director of Nuclear Engineering to lead the nuclear engineering discipline across its laser fusion programs and facilities. Working within a matrix engineering organization, the director sets technical standards, defines the nuclear design basis and develops the engineers who apply it.
Responsibilities: Build and lead the Nuclear Engineering Department, including hiring, mentoring, career paths and performance development. Establish standards and methods covering concept development, design, testing and operations. Ensure disciplined radiation transport and shielding analysis, activation analysis, source term definition and uncertainty analysis, and support radiological safety and hazards analysis.
The director works with program leaders to scope and schedule nuclear work, identifies risks early, and integrates nuclear considerations with systems engineering, facilities, test, operations and ES&H (environment, safety and health). The role also plans long-term capability growth and external partnerships.
Requirements: An advanced degree in nuclear engineering or a closely related technical field, with a PhD strongly preferred. At least 15 years of nuclear engineering experience including senior technical leadership, and a record of building high-performing teams. Candidates need strong radiation physics fundamentals, experience with deterministic and Monte Carlo neutron and photon transport using tools such as MCNP or OpenMC, and experience managing schedules, budgets and performance metrics in matrix organizations.
Preferred experience: Work in fusion, high-radiation facilities or other advanced energy systems is valued, as is collaboration with national laboratories, universities or large multi-institution programs. Experience establishing engineering standards and a publication record or recognized standing in the nuclear engineering community are also preferred.
Working arrangements: The role is onsite at the Denver headquarters. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, U.S. permanent residents, or lawfully admitted to the U.S. as refugees or asylees.
