Xcimer Energy is hiring a Pulsed Power Operations Engineer to operate, troubleshoot and maintain the high-voltage pulsed power components of Phoenix, its experimental excimer laser system. The engineer will be among the first to qualify as a Pulsed Power Controller, executing shot procedures alongside the Shot Director during laser experiments.
Responsibilities: Operate and maintain high-voltage, high-current pulsed power hardware and diagnose faults with oscilloscopes, probes and meters. Analyze transient waveforms, inspect and replace components such as capacitors, switches and cables, and support pre-shot and post-shot work. Write operating procedures and build operational infrastructure such as alarm setpoints, interlocks and maintenance requirements. During maintenance windows, carry out hands-on corrective work and system upgrades.
Requirements: A bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering. Entry-level engineers with strong laboratory, test or hands-on experience are encouraged to apply. Candidates need solid circuit fundamentals, including transient response of RC, RL and RLC circuits, expert use of oscilloscopes and test equipment, the ability to read schematics and datasheets, systematic troubleshooting skills, and an understanding of high-voltage safety practices. Experience operating complex, high-risk systems is required, as is the ability to follow optical layouts.
Preferred experience: Coursework or lab work in pulsed power and two or more years in pulsed power or high-voltage test operations. Familiarity with Marx generators, capacitor banks, transient diagnostics, dielectric breakdown and root-cause investigations helps, but pulsed power experience is not required.
Working arrangements: Onsite in Denver on a set 8-hour shift, with work outside shift hours during critical periods. The role involves standing for long periods and lifting up to 50 pounds.
