Kuosheng Unit 1 (Second Nuclear Power Plant)

Proposed · Taiwan · Policy reversal

Low-confidence record: sources are thin or conflict. Figures below are the best available public statements, not confirmed facts.

Kuosheng 1 is a 985 MWe (net) Taipower BWR-6 shut in 2021. In December 2025 Taiwan's economy ministry judged a Kuosheng restart feasible after overhaul, but Taipower has prioritised Maanshan and no Kuosheng restart approval has been reported.

MOEA said the power generation system had been idle for over two years and needs overhaul. Whether Taipower has filed a Kuosheng restart plan with the NSC could not be confirmed; March 2026 filing covered Maanshan.
