Genkai Unit 3

Genkai 3 is a 1,127 MWe (net) Kyushu Electric PWR licensed for MOX fuel that restarted in March 2018 after more than seven years offline. It is in operation; a periodic inspection that began in June 2026 is scheduled to end with commercial operation in November 2026.

Notes

Per WNN, power generation resumed 2018-04-18 (later than the 25 March plan). JAIF gross output 1,180 MWe; net from WNA. Unit was also briefly offline in late 2022 over the specialised safety facility deadline (WNA).

  • 2017-01-18 — The NRA officially approved Genkai 3 and 4. (source)
  • 2018-03-23 — Kyushu began the restart of Genkai 3 by withdrawing control rods. (source)
