Hamaoka Units 1 and 2

Active dismantling · Japan · Immediate dismantling

Chubu Electric's Hamaoka 1 and 2 BWRs, closed in 2009 over seismic upgrade costs, are the first Japanese commercial reactors to reach the reactor-dismantling stage. Unit 2's reactor dismantling began in March 2025 and Unit 1's in October 2025; Chubu expects to finish in fiscal 2042.
