Tsuruga 1, a 341 MWe BWR that began commercial operation in 1970 as one of Japan's first, ended operation on 27 April 2015 and has been in decommissioning since May 2017. Its sister Unit 2 was refused a restart by the regulator in 2024 over an active fault.
